Rep. Waltz Statement on 2020 NDAA Conference Announcement

U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), a member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement on the House passage of motion on the Conference Committee to reconcile differences between the House and Senate versions of the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):

“I’m glad to see the House and Senate moving forward on the 2020 NDAA. This bill is critical for the direction and resources of our troops and it’s important we resolve the differences between these two bills and pass the NDAA swiftly so the President can sign it into law before the end of the Fiscal Year.”

The NDAA authorizes the budget and expenditures for the U.S. Department of Defense. In June, Waltz supported measures in the House version of the NDAA, like restricting contracts with the Maduro regime, fully funding antisubmarine capabilities, providing assistance for Gold Star families, light attack aircraft acquisition and the formation of a Space Corps.

“Space is a warfighting domain and it’s important we protect American assets from hostile foreign actors,” Waltz said. “I’m hopeful the final bill will include a true sixth branch of the military dedicated to defending these assets in space. Overall, I hope we can come to a bipartisan agreement for this year’s NDAA, for the good of all our troops.”
