Waltz Announces 83,000 Jobs Saved in Florida's Sixth District from Paycheck Protection Program

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) applauded newly-released data from the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury and the Small Business Administration, which shows nearly 83,000 jobs in Florida’s Sixth District were retained as a result of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

“This data makes it clear that the Paycheck Protection Program has had a positive impact on our community,” Waltz said. “The entire purpose of this program was to save jobs which would have otherwise been lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic – and in Central Florida, that’s exactly what it did. This is great news for small businesses in our area – and I’m looking forward to seeing them keep their doors open and keep employees on payroll.”

PPP was established in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act by Congress to provide aid to small businesses and organizations during the coronavirus pandemic. The program provides a loan which can be forgiven if recipients meet certain criteria, including allocating a significant percentage to payroll. Waltz voted in favor of PPP in March.

Data in Florida’s Sixth District showed:

  • More than $616 million in approved loans
  • Nearly 83,000 jobs retained
  • More than 11,000 businesses receiving loans, more than 10,000 of which received loans under $150,000
