Waltz Swaps Congress for Mail Delivery as Undercover United States Postal Service Mail Carrier

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) switched roles from elected official to mail carrier when he went “undercover” as a United States Postal Service mail carrier in Daytona Beach.

Waltz spent the morning delivering mail and learning more about a day in the life of a USPS mail carrier as part of the “Undercover Congressman” series, where he spends a day working at an area business with constituents.

Waltz began going undercover at businesses in Florida’s Sixth District beginning in April. So far, he has delivered packages with UPS, served chicken sandwiches and waffle fries at Chick-fil-A, dipped ice cream for customers at Dairy Queen, hand-tossed pizza dough at Giuseppe’s Steel City Pizza and delivered mail with the USPS.

The USPS currently employs more than 644,000 people, nearly 340,000 of whom work as mail carriers. The USPS employs more than 100,000 military veterans and is also one of the largest employers of veterans in the country. Forty percent of mail carriers are women.

More than 75,000 mail carriers drive to neighborhoods around the country and deliver mail on foot. Nearly 7,000 carriers deliver mail entirely on foot – the “USPS Fleet of Feet.” Mail is delivered by bicycle on select routes in Florida.

Waltz plans to continue to visit more businesses for future episodes.
