Waltz Addresses the State of America’s National Security a Year into Biden’s Presidency

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, U.S. Congressman Mike Waltz (FL-6) joined fellow House Republicans to call attention to the numerous crises facing America and the international community today after just one year under President Joe Biden’s administration. “The number one job of the Commander-in-Chief is to keep this country safe and yesterday, Joe Biden literally threw the Ukrainian people under the bus by essentially giving the Russians a greenlight and giving Putin a greenlight if they only make a ‘minor incursion,’” said Waltz. “Words matter when you are in this type of crisis and words matter when you’re standing at the Presidential podium.” Click here to watch the full remarks. “[President Biden] may have used his team to try to spin and backtrack afterwards but Putin got the message, the Kremlin got the message, the Ukrainian people got the message. I have to tell you the Chinese, the North Koreans, the Iranian Regime, the Taliban, al-Qaeda, and ISIS all got the message too.” Waltz went on to emphasize how President Biden’s failed energy policies have played into Russian aggression, “By shutting down pipelines here, by regulating fracking, by stopping drilling of American oil and gas companies, he has enriched Putin’s oil and gas companies. Every time you see that price of oil go higher and higher, Putin gets richer and richer and more and more aggressive.” Pointing to the tens of thousands of freedom loving Afghans who fought alongside U.S. service members who have been left behind for dead, the thirteen Gold Star families who lost their loved ones in Kabul, and the millions of Afghan girls and women whose rights are being stripped by the Taliban, Waltz rebutted President Biden’s statement that he ‘makes no apologies’ for the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the aftermath. “Now, [Afghanistan] is a terrorist super state led by a Taliban caliphate and the intelligence is clear, al-Qaeda and ISIS are developing the capability to, once again, strike the homeland in just under one year of this Biden presidency,” said Waltz. “We’ve gone from Abraham Accords… to rockets flying on Israeli cities. In China, we’re on the verge of sending our athletes and companies to Beijing and flying the American flag, giving the Chinese Communist Party this global propaganda platform.” “This president has the worst human rights record of any modern American president,” said Waltz. “When you have, according to international NGOs, 30-40% of girls being sexually assaulted or sold into human trafficking on our Southern Border, when you have the forced mass rape and sterilization of women in the Uighurs, just ask the Afghan girls and just ask the Cuban people who heard nothing but silence from this White House as they stood for freedom.” Waltz then pointed to the Biden Administration’s “fundamentally flawed national security approach of America last and concessions first” as a repeat of the Obama years with the same individuals holding cabinet positions under both administrations. Waltz continued, “Our adversaries see [Biden’s flawed approach] as weakness and they see that as an opportunity.” Waltz suggested America and the world need leadership from the White House. “Prosperity around the world, and why it matters to the American people, has been underscored by American leadership and the United States military since World War II and credibility is under a serious and dangerous erosion. We are moving backwards in the world.” |
