“I think incentivizing women to have interests and pursue careers in STEM is critical to fully utilizing our talent base and competing long-term,” Waltz said. “And in fact, its not just about competitiveness, its not just a domestic issue, its an international issue ¬– it’s a national security issue in my view. In my background as Green Beret, and operating all over the world, the bottom line is, where women thrive in business, in civil society, in politics, extremism doesn’t.” Read more »
“And I think the crux of the disconnect here is denuclearization does not mean – at least in my mind – a freezing of the program, which is where we are now – and I think the Administration deserves credit for that. Denuclearization is a destruction of the program. I don’t want to see us leave the program intact, that can be turned back on again years from now, if the North Koreans don’t like how things are going.” Read more »

“Following the longest shut down in history, I will not let partisan games put the families of our Coast Guard and those who protect our country at risk. “I think I’ve heard you say... that ‘by, with, and through’ is kind of the operative strategy for defeating ISIS— particularly in Syria?,” Waltz asked. “And as I understand the pull-out strategy, we will no longer be with our allies on the ground, is that correct?... [And] we will not be [as] effective remotely, as we will [be] on the ground with a small force presence?” Read more »
“I’m honored to have Senior Chief Graham of New Smyrna station join me at the State of the Union tomorrow,” Waltz said. “The sacrifices and commitment he and other Coasties make to continue serving and protecting our community – despite not receiving paychecks during the recent government shutdown – is inspiring. I hope his presence in the Gallery tomorrow will serve as a reminder to all watching and attending that Congress has a responsibility to our men and women in uniform, our constituents, and all Americans to secure our border, keep the government open, keep our Coast Guard and federal workers paid, and keep our country safe.” Read more »
“The INF was a landmark agreement of President Reagan’s that played an essential role in preventing nuclear war and reducing an arms race between the Cold War super-powers. However, Russia’s consistent violations, coupled with China’s advancement of its own weapons capabilities, demonstrate American compliance is no longer in the best interest of our national defense or security, nor that of our allies. Withdrawing from the INF, a step only taken after careful consideration of the facts, is a reciprocal and appropriate response to Russia’s aggressive attempts to undermine American interests and security and the threats we face from China’s advanced weapons capabilities. I applaud the President for untethering our ability to prepare and respond to emerging and growing threats to our homeland and interests.”

“Following the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, it’s clear to me we need to create stronger incentives for more Members of Congress to come to the table and do the job the American people sent them here to do,” Waltz said. “What federal workers and servicemembers in our Coast Guard were put through this past month was unacceptable. This bipartisan legislation would motivate Members of Congress to be part of finding a solution in a timely manner.” Read more »
