On Sunday, U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) issued the following statement on the death of ISIS Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi: “Al-Baghdadi’s death is proof that terrorists can run but they can’t hide forever. Justice has been served for the families of James Foley, Kayla Mueller, Steven Sotloff and Peter Kassig, as well as thousands of others brutally killed under ISIS cruelty.” On Sunday, President Donald J. Trump announced al-Baghdadi was killed during a military raid carried out by special-operations forces near Idlib in northwestern Syria. Waltz served multiple tours overseas in the Middle East, Afghanistan and West Africa combating terrorism as a Green Beret. He also served as a counterterrorism adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney. He has been vocal of the need to remain vigilant in the fight against ISIS. “We must keep in mind that we were able to strike al-Baghdadi because we had forces in the region,” Waltz said. “We must keep ISIS from returning by staying on offense.” |
